On Thursday, a public meeting in Nakuru County to discuss the increased sale and consumption of illicit brew descended into chaos when the area Member of Parliament arrived drunk.

Locals were shocked to see the MP, accompanied by his aides and supporters, stumbling to the podium.

According to residents present at the meeting, the MP's inebriated state was evident as he struggled to address the crowd, with his speech slurred and incoherent.

"We were shocked to learn that our MP was totally drunk and out of his senses," said a resident, John Kariuki.

The MP was subsequently whisked away by police and his security detail as a section of angry residents threatened to beat him up.

However, in a telephone conversation with the Nation, the MP denied being drunk, attributing the narrative to his political opponents.

"I admit, I usually drink, but honestly, I could not be drunk on Thursday evening. That is a lie advanced by my competitors," the MP said.
