The Kenyan women's volleyball team, Malkia Strikers, is gearing up to reclaim their title as the continent's top volleyball team at the African Women's Volleyball Championship in Cairo.

According to Kenya Volleyball Federation president Waithaka Kioni, the team has been holding intensive training sessions at the Kasarani Indoor arena under the guidance of Italian coach Shaleen Ramdoo.

On Tuesday, the team's coaches named a strong 14-woman squad, choosing to go for experience as they gear their charges for glory. The squad includes seasoned players such as Jane Wacu, Jannet Wanja, and Mercy Moim.

Kenya fell 3-1 to Cameroon during the 2017 final, and the team is determined to make a comeback. The biannual event will take place from July 7 to 15 in the Egyptian capital.

As the team prepares to depart for Cairo on Friday, they are also carrying a sense of duty to atone for the country's sporting image following the Harambee Stars' inglorious exit from the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
