On Thursday, Dennis Itumbi, the State House digital director, was arraigned in court to be charged over a fake letter claiming there was a plot to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto.

According to an affidavit presented to court by investigator Yvonne Anyango, police arrested one Samuel on Tuesday and recovered several items from him, including two mobile phones.

One of the phones contained the 'Tangatanga Movement' WhatsApp group, which was created on July 8, 2018, and had 256 members.

Ms. Anyango urged the court to hold Itumbi in custody for another 14 days to allow police to summon members of the WhatsApp group to record statements.

She argued that the members of the group were close associates of Itumbi, increasing the chances of interference in the investigation.

Itumbi was arrested by Flying Squad officers on Wednesday at City Hall, Nairobi.
