On July 4, 2019, Jacob Ojee, a talented rugby player, made headlines when he was named the StarTimes Sports Personality of the month of May.
Ojee's impressive performance in the Kenya Cup earned him the prestigious award, which is given to outstanding athletes in Kenya.
As a winger for the KCB Men's Rugby team, Ojee was instrumental in the team's third consecutive Kenya Cup crown, which they won by defeating Kabras 23-15 in the final played at the Kakamega showground.
His outstanding display in the match saw him score 18 points, cementing his position as one of the top rugby players in the country.
Ojee edged out other notable athletes, including Simon Cheprot, who showed exceptional sportsmanship at the Okepeke marathon, and Phillip Wokorach, a Ugandan rugby star who led Kabras to victory in the Enterprise cup final.
Other notable winners of the StarTimes Sports Personality award include World marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge, World 5,000m champion Helen Obiri, and Telkom Hockey team forward Jackline Mwangi.
As the 23rd recipient of the award, Ojee received a 43-inch digital television set and one hundred thousand shillings prize money.
