On July 4, 2019, a memorial mass was held at All Saints Cathedral to honor the late Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore. Peter Kenneth, a close friend of Collymore's and a former Gatanga MP, spoke on behalf of Collymore's friends and family.
Kenneth expressed gratitude to President Uhuru Kenyatta for visiting Collymore during his last days. He revealed that Uhuru Kenyatta paid a visit to Collymore at his home on the Monday before he passed away.
According to Kenneth, Collymore was grateful for the visit and was comforted by the President's gesture. Kenneth also shared that Collymore had prepared his friends for his departure in their last meeting, which was held on June 29, 2019, just two days before his death.
Collymore's last words to his friends were: 'I don't know about this heaven and earth thing, but I truly hope there is a life after death. If I get three more days, I will be lucky. Stay together and take care of Wambui and the children.'
Collymore was a man of many talents, including playing the saxophone and painting. He was also an outgoing person who enjoyed flying helicopters and was keen on details.
