July 4, 2019, marked a somber day for Kenyans as they mourned the loss of Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore. His wife, Wambui Kamiru Collymore, took to social media to express her gratitude for the outpouring of love and support she has received since his passing.
Speaking at the memorial service held at All Saints Cathedral, Wambui shared words of wisdom, saying, "Never be ashamed of who you are. Never apologize for what you have. Never let people decide how you should feel about yourself. Be proud of yourself and your achievements…"
On Wednesday, Wambui had posted a heartfelt message on Twitter, her first public statement after Bob's death. She wrote, "I am overwhelmed by all the love and beautiful messages I have been receiving from you all here….It is a true statement of the special man I was lucky to love."
Wambui and Bob Collymore were married in 2016 in a private ceremony. Wambui is an artist, actress, and owner of Art Space Kenya, an art gallery.
Bob Collymore succumbed to cancer at his home in the wee hours of July 1, 2019, at his Nairobi home. He had been battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) for almost two years.
As a tribute to their departed CEO, Safaricom announced that all shops will be closed countrywide for four hours on Thursday in honor of Bob Collymore.
