StarTimes Sports Personality of the Month ¶
On July 4, 2019, KCB winger Jacob Ojee was named the StarTimes Sports Personality of the month of May. This achievement makes him the first male rugby player to receive the award.
Ojee's recognition comes after his outstanding performance in the Kenya Cup, where he played a pivotal role in KCB's third consecutive Kenya Cup crown. He scored 18 points from a try, two conversions, and three penalties, showcasing his excellent all-round display.
He edged out other notable athletes, including Simon Cheprot, Phillip Wokorach, and Everlyn Okinyi, who were also shortlisted for the award. Ojee received a StarTimes 43-inch digital television set and Kshs 100,000 prize money for his exploits.
Speaking during the award presentation ceremony, StarTimes Regional Director of Marketing Aldrine Nsubuga congratulated Ojee, noting that he becomes the first male rugby player to win the award. Ojee expressed his delight at receiving the award, thanking the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya and StarTimes for recognizing his efforts on the field.
