Published on July 4, 2019, the Uganda national football team's strike at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt has taken a dramatic turn.
A Member of Parliament, Odonga Otoo, has accused five players, including Godfrey Walusimbi and Allan Kateregga, of masterminding the strike over unpaid bonuses.
According to Otoo, the strike is about the players demanding more than what was agreed upon, which he claims is a 'typical Ugandan behaviour.'
However, Jamil Mohammed, a player who turns out for Al Hilal in Sudan, has hit back at Otoo, calling for 'respect' and claiming that the reported Sh600,000 bonus is 'peanuts' to him.
‘With due respect to your position, I think you had to get the right information from the captain,' Mohammed said.
‘I earn more than this monthly peanuts and it is not tax-payers money like what you earn from parliament. Respect my name and get informed well,' he added.
