Chelsea has announced the appointment of Frank Lampard as their new manager, marking his return to the club on a three-year deal.
Following his appointment, Lampard expressed his gratitude to Chelsea fans, while also thanking Derby County for their support during his time as manager of the Rams.
Lampard, a Chelsea legend, has been in talks with the club for several weeks before sealing his move to West London. He played a key role in Chelsea's golden era, making 648 appearances and scoring a club record 211 goals between 2001 and 2014.
During his time at Chelsea, Lampard won three Premier League titles and the Champions League. However, the club has been handed a two-window transfer ban by FIFA for breaching rules regarding the international transfer and registration of players under 18.
The ban could force Lampard to rely on youngsters, a strategy he developed at Derby where he blooded several Chelsea loanees, including Fikayo Tomori, Mason Mount, and Tammy Abraham.
With teenager Callum Hudson-Odoi having made the breakthrough under Sarri last season, Lampard may be the ideal choice to construct a Chelsea side based on youth.
Chelsea, who finished third in the league last season, will kick off their 2019-20 campaign against Manchester United on 11 August.
