Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC (KenGen) has made a significant move in the energy sector by launching a state-of-the-art Research and Development Centre at Tana Power Station in Muranga County. The facility, which is expected to take 18 months to complete, will serve as an innovation hub and an archive for the company.
Speaking during the foundation stone laying ceremony, KenGen Managing Director and CEO, Mrs Rebecca Miano, highlighted the importance of the project, which is part of the company's overall Diversification Strategy. The centre will enable employees to carry out trials, tests, experiments, and pilot new business ideas, ultimately leading to the identification and implementation of new revenue streams.

As part of the project, measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of employees and contractors working on the project, including observing COVID-19 protocols. The local community has also benefited from the project, with the contractor engaging a total of 92 short-term contract staff, comprising 81 males and 11 females.
