On July 4, 2019, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha launched a 17-member task force to analyze the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

The task force, led by Prof. Fatuma Chege, will advise stakeholders on the implementation of the junior secondary school curriculum as envisaged in the new 2-6-3-3-3 education system.

The task force's mandate includes advising on the transition of Grade Six cohort of the Competency-Based Curriculum and Standard 7 and 8 of the current 8-4-4 system.

According to the implementation schedule, the transition is expected to take place in 2023.

Prof. Magoha has ordered the team to prepare a report on the transition process of pupils in Grades 7, 8, and 9 before the CBC conference to be held on August 16, 2019.

Prof. Magoha also wants the task force to work on the CBC assessment for the reformed curriculum, which has been the subject of public debate recently.

Prof. Chege promised to work closely with relevant bodies to come up with a comprehensive practical report.
