On July 3, 2019, a dramatic scene unfolded at Muthaiga Police Station as journalist Jacque Maribe visited her friend Dennis Itumbi, who had been arrested in connection to a letter on the alleged assassination of Deputy President William Ruto.
Maribe's visit was a reversal of roles, as Itumbi had played a central role in her court case, where she is accused of murder alongside her fiancé Joseph Irungu alias Joe Jowie.
The two are accused of killing businesswoman Monica Kimani in 2018. Itumbi's arrest came just days after he was a key figure in the days of Maribe's arrest until she was released on bail.
Maribe was pictured with Itumbi, along with Nairobi politician Josiah Murigu and Itumbi's brother David Itumbi, at the police station.
