Published on July 4, 2019, a motion to block the purchase of the National Bank building by the Uasin Gishu County government was moved by County Assembly Leader of Majority Josphat Lowoi.
The MCAs questioned the need to buy the building at a cost of Sh568 million, especially when constructing a modern building would cost around Sh300 million and was already included in the budget.
Lowoi argued that the county government should identify a piece of land it owns for construction, and that the Controller of Budget should be informed to prevent the release of funds meant for the purchase of the National Bank building.
Uasin Gishu Deputy Speaker Hosea Korir seconded the motion, citing legal issues surrounding the ownership of the National Bank land that could put taxpayers' money at risk.
Speaker David Kiplagat assured that his office would move with speed to ensure that the resolution of the House is adhered to.
