The Harambee Stars team returned home to a disappointing reception on Thursday morning, with coach Sebastian Migne and lead striker Micheal Olunga nowhere to be found.
According to reports, Migne had returned to his native France, while Olunga headed back to Japan to resume his duties with second-tier side Kashiwa Reysol.
Also missing in action was midfielder Ismael Gonzalez, who barely featured at the tournament and returned to Spain.
The team's poor performance at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, where they lost to Senegal and Algeria but managed a win against Tanzania, was met with disappointment from Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa.
Goalkeeper Patrick Matasi and defender Eric 'Marcelo' Ouma took the responsibility of addressing the nation in the absence of Migne and Olunga.
Matasi reflected on the team's performance, stating, 'It has been a learning process. The competition was tough. That's a whole new level of competition and each mistake we made was promptly punished.'
Ouma added, 'I think we performed well as the team and we will get better and stronger.'
The team's next competitive game is against Burundi in the 2020 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers in 20 days time.
