On September 16, 2021, Jambojet, a regional low-cost carrier, launched flights to Lamu, marking its fourth coastal destination in Kenya after Mombasa, Malindi, and Ukunda.
The airline operates four weekly flights from Nairobi to Lamu via Mombasa, with a one-way fare of KES. 7100 from Nairobi to Lamu and KES. 4600 from Mombasa to Lamu.
Simultaneously, Jambojet and the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife unveiled a new aircraft livery wrap to raise awareness about the conservation of endangered sea turtles and dugongs.
According to Jambojet's CEO Karanja Ndegwa, the airline anticipates increased traffic into Lamu due to the ongoing LAPSSET project, making it easier for tourists and potential investors to travel to the destination.
As part of the launch, Jambojet partnered with the Lamu County Government, KWS, the Lamu Tourism Association, and other stakeholders to embark on a four-day discovery tour of Lamu County to demonstrate the new normal of travel and encourage people to travel.
