On Tuesday, pop superstar Rihanna was overcome with emotion as she reunited with her childhood physical education teacher, Roddy Estwick, at the Cricket World Cup in Durham, U.K.
Estwick, now the West Indies assistant coach, was in attendance at the match between the West Indies and Sri Lanka, where the West Indies ultimately lost by 23 runs.
According to a video posted by the Jamaica Observer, Rihanna broke down in tears as she gave her former teacher a big hug.
She was seen in the stands, cheering on her West Indies team, and even posed with players while holding a signed cricket bat after the match.
"Everybody calls her Rihanna but I know her as Robyn Fenty," Estwick said in an interview with the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Rihanna commented on the Jamaica Observer video, stating, ‘This is my teacher from school! He was a mentor and father figure to me. I haven’t seen him in years!’
She also shared a photo of her and Estwick on her Instagram story, stating, ‘my mentor, my champ, my MVP, my school teacher, my first “JayBrown”… #MrEstwick! You made my day.’
