On July 3, 2019, a truck crashed on the New Jersey side of the Lincoln Tunnel, injuring several people and causing a significant disruption to the preholiday commute home for thousands of commuters.
The truck, which appeared to be a trash truck, flipped over a railing and landed nose-first on the westbound lanes of Route 495, partially blocking the road and forcing the shutdown of the Port Authority Bus Terminal, the busiest in the country.
According to an official of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, bus service was suspended, and commuters were advised to find alternative ways of getting home.
One commuter bus company diverted its buses to a train station in Secaucus, N.J., to begin westbound runs, while travelers seeking alternatives were directed to New Jersey Transit rail, PATH train service, and commuter ferries.
