Kenya's Huduma Centres, once hailed for revolutionizing government service delivery, are now under investigation for alleged corruption.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has been called in to probe the disappearance of Sh266 million collected on behalf of the Interior ministry through the Postal Corporation of Kenya for police clearance certificates.

According to the National Assembly's Public Accounts Committee, the unaccounted funds are part of collections made through the Postal Corporation of Kenya.

Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho has threatened to take legal action if necessary, underscoring the gravity of the allegations.

With over 50 Huduma Centres established across the 47 counties, the corruption scandal threatens to undermine the progress made in providing efficient and transparent government services.

As the DCI speeds up its investigation, it remains to be seen whether the gains made so far will be eroded by the entrenchment of cartels in public service delivery.
