Published on July 3, 2019, a global outage affected Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp users worldwide, preventing them from uploading photos, videos, and files.
Facebook, the parent company of the three platforms, acknowledged the issue and assured users that they were working to resolve it as quickly as possible.
The outage, which occurred on the heels of a similar disruption in March, affected billions of users across the globe, including those on Facebook's main social network, its two messaging apps, and image-sharing site Instagram.
Twitter, a rival platform, also experienced issues, with some users unable to send direct messages or receive notifications. However, users were still able to post on Twitter, and the hashtag #instagramdown began trending as people used the site to highlight the problems with its competitors.
Facebook has more than 2.3 billion monthly active users, while Instagram has over 1 billion. The Facebook Messenger app, often installed separately, was also affected by the outage.
