On July 3, 2019, Strathmore University Business School and the Jean Golding Institute for Data Science at the University of Bristol UK announced a new partnership, marking a significant step forward in data science collaboration between institutions.
According to the agreement, the two institutions will work together to develop mutually beneficial scholarly activities in the field of data science, with a focus on addressing challenges relevant to the African context.
Dr. George Njenga, Executive Dean of Strathmore University Business School, and Professor Kate Robson Brown, Director of the Jean Golding Institute for Data Science, signed the partnership agreement during a ceremony.
Through this partnership, the teams from both universities will share expertise on how data science can be used to address challenges in areas such as agriculture, wildlife conservation, and healthcare, among others.
Dr. Njenga emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating, “This partnership will strengthen our role as an institution in bringing the power of new technologies and innovations to areas such as agriculture, wildlife, and enhance skills in the use of geospatial information to address some of Kenya’s oldest problems.”
Professor Kate Robson Brown added, “Developing data science capacity in Kenya and the region is key to addressing some of the greatest societal challenges facing the community, and will also unlock economic opportunities of significant benefit. It is an honour and a pleasure to be working with our colleagues at Strathmore University to achieve these goals.”
