On July 3, 2019, journalist Jacque Maribe returned the favour and visited her friend Dennis Itumbi, who had been arrested in connection to a letter on the alleged assassination of Deputy President William Ruto.
Maribe's visit to Itumbi at Muthaiga Police Station marked a reversal of roles, as Itumbi had previously played a central role in her court case, where she was accused of murder alongside her fiancé Joseph Irungu alias Joe Jowie.
The two are accused of killing businesswoman Monica Kimani in 2018. Itumbi's arrest came after he was a key figure in the days of Maribe's arrest until she was released on bail last year.
Others present during Maribe's visit to Itumbi included Nairobi politician Josiah Murigu and Itumbi's brother David Itumbi.
