Lyon has swiftly replaced Tanguy Ndombele with the acquisition of midfielder Thiago Mendes from Lille, in a move that has left fans eager to see how the Brazilian will perform in the upcoming season.

On Tuesday, Tottenham Hotspur confirmed Ndombele as their player for a record fee, marking their return to the market after finalizing their last deal in January 2018.

Thiago Mendes joins fellow Brazilian Jean Lucas at Lyon, with the terms of his transfer remaining undisclosed, although reports suggest he cost around €25m.

Appearance

According to Opta Stats, Mendes made 35 Ligue 1 appearances in the 2018-19 season as Lille finished second behind Paris Saint-Germain in the table, a place ahead of Lyon.

With the signing of Romania goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu, Lyon is gearing up for the new season, but they are expected to lose more players, including Ferland Mendy, who has already been snapped up by Real Madrid, and Nabil Fekir, who continues to be linked with an exit.

Lyon, under new coach Bruno Genesio, will open the new season away to Monaco next month.
