On July 2, 2019, a dramatic incident unfolded at the Brookside Junction on Waiyaki Way in Nairobi, where two suspected robbers lost their lives in a confrontation with police.
The area is notorious for mugging and violent robberies, and on this particular evening, a gang of four men attempted to rob a motorist.
According to a police report, officers on patrol duty at around 7:30 pm caught the robbers in the act and upon confrontation, the assailants began shooting at the police.
Two of the suspects were killed during the incident, while the other two fled the scene, leaving behind a toy pistol and seven mobile phones from different companies.
The bodies were moved to the Nairobi City Mortuary for postmortem and identification.
