On July 3, 2019, Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen, a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto, expressed his discontent with the government's decision to arrest Dennis Itumbi.

Murkomen suggested that Itumbi's arrest was a ploy to shift focus away from a crucial meeting held at La Mada.

Itumbi was apprehended by plainclothes policemen at City Hall in Nairobi's Central Business District on Wednesday.

Murkomen questioned the authenticity of allegations surrounding a bid to assassinate Deputy President Ruto, stating that the claims were based on a single letter.
