On July 1, 2019, Harambee Stars faced off against Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations. The match ended in a 3-0 win for Senegal, with Saido Mane scoring twice.

After the match, Kenyan midfielder John Avire approached Mane and requested to exchange jerseys. However, Mane was unable to oblige as he was required to attend post-match formalities, including receiving the player of the match award and conducting media interviews.

Avire's request was not the only instance of jersey exchange attempts. Kenyan midfielder Johanna Omollo successfully exchanged jerseys with a Senegal player.

According to Nairobi News, Avire's request was genuine, but unfortunately, the two players did not meet as Mane was busy with post-match obligations.
