On July 1, 2019, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) conducted a daring raid in Kayole, rescuing nine children suspected to be victims of human trafficking.

The rescued children, aged between 12 and 17 years, were found in a house in the area, sparking a massive investigation by the DCI.

According to a 2018 US State Department report, Kenya does not meet the minimum standards for eliminating human trafficking, and the country has been mapped as a source, destination, and transit for trafficking.

Three suspects, aged 41, 52, and 80, were arrested during the raid, and they are currently in police custody as investigations continue.

The raid followed the disappearance of a 17-year-old student from Soweto slums, and the DCI's swift action has ensured the safe recovery of the children.
