Cheruiyot to Lead Kenyan Charge at Lausanne's Athletissima

Published on 3 July 2019, Timothy Cheruiyot, the 2018 Diamond League champion, will spearhead a high-powered men's 1500m race at this year's Lausanne's Athletissima on 5 July.

The 23-year-old has started his season on a strong note, finishing second in Doha and winning in Oslo on 13 June.

Cheruiyot will be joined by a five-man Kenyan team, including Bethwell Birgen, Vincent Kibet, Ronald Kwemoi, Timothy Sein, and Justus Soget.

Other notable athletes competing in the men's 1500m include World indoor 1500m record holder Samuel Tefera of Ethiopia and Norwegian brothers Jakob and Filip Ingebrigtsen.

Meanwhile, a strong battle is expected in the men's 5000m race, where a Kenyan contingent of five athletes will compete for the top honors, led by former national champion Paul Tanui.

Other notable athletes competing in the men's 5000m include double Commonwealth Champion Ugandan Joshua Cheptegei, former Kenyan turned American Paul Chelimo, and Bahranian Birhanu Balew.
