Uganda Cranes players have maintained their strike, refusing to train ahead of a crucial game against Senegal on Friday in the round of 16 at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The players are demanding $10,000 promised by Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) for qualifying to the 2019 Nations Cup, separate from Ush2 billion ($539,480) given by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the team to share after qualification.
According to Uganda Radio Network (URN), a Fufa source claims that the federation promised the players $10,000 each for qualification, but used the government money to pay them instead.
However, the players argue that the government money is a separate payment and do not consider it as part of the promised $10,000.
As of July 2, each player had been paid a total of $14,600, including $4000 for their win against DR Congo, $2000 for the draw against Zimbabwe, $5100 for 34 days of camping, $420 for 14 days of camping in Uganda, and $300 for an international friendly against Ivory Coast.
It remains to be seen if the players will accept to train later or continue with the strike.
