Published on July 3, 2019, the perceived bad blood between the National Assembly and the Senate came to the fore once again.
At the National Assembly, Deputy Speaker Moses Cheboi led the morning sitting, while across town, the Senate spent the better part of its session discussing its relevance.
Majority Leader Adan Duale moved a motion accusing the Senate of overstepping its mandate and duplicating roles that constitutionally belonged to the National Assembly.
He questioned the relevance of several committees in the Senate, warning Cabinet Secretaries who appeared before them that they were breaking the law.
According to Duale, the Senate was not even allowed to vet state officers, as per article 95 of the constitution.
Various MPs echoed the sentiments, with some calling for the scrapping of the Senate.
