Safaricom, Kenya's leading telecommunications company, has announced that it will close all its shops on Thursday, July 4, 2019, from 10:30am to 2:30pm in honor of its late CEO, Bob Collymore.
Collymore, who passed away on July 1, 2019, after a long battle with acute Myeloid Leukaemia, was a highly respected leader in the telecommunications industry.
As a mark of respect, Safaricom will hold a memorial service at the All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi, which will be attended by employees, customers, and other stakeholders.
Collymore's body was cremated at a private event in Nairobi on July 2, 2019, and his family and close friends were in attendance.
Following Collymore's death, Safaricom appointed Michael Joseph, the chairman of Kenya Airways, as the interim CEO. Joseph, a former Safaricom CEO, will hold the position until the board fills it on a permanent basis.
Collymore took over as CEO in November 2010, succeeding Michael Joseph.
