Fireworks in the Big Apple

On the Fourth of July, America turns 243 years old, and New York City is celebrating with the largest fireworks display in the nation, hosted by Macy's. The show is set to start at 9:20 p.m. and will be visible from various locations throughout the city.

According to Macy's website, there are 'prime viewing locations' on elevated portions of Franklin D. Roosevelt Drive and the Lower Promenade. Some recommended entry points to these areas include Broad and Water Streets, where you can see the fireworks 'almost directly in front of the barges.'

However, not everyone can afford to get a good view. At Manhattan's South Street Seaport, Piers 16 and 17 are closed to the public, but open to those who can afford a $492 ticket to a party at the Fulton restaurant.

But don't worry, there are other options for watching the fireworks. You can head to Coney Island, Brooklyn, for the Steeplechase Spectacular Fireworks show, which starts at 9:50 p.m. You can also watch the fireworks that are part of Jersey City's daylong festivities.

And if you're looking for more fireworks, there are also shows planned for 9:20 p.m. in Jersey City, as well as every Friday night through Aug. 30 on Coney Island.

Remember, fireworks are illegal in New York City, so you won't be able to set them off yourself. But you can enjoy the ones that are put on by professionals.
