On 21st February 2019, Starehe MP Charles Njagua, popularly known as Jaguar, was sentenced for causing the death of two people through reckless driving.
Two weeks ago, Jaguar made xenophobic remarks in Gikomba market, which led to his arrest outside parliament buildings by plain-clothed officers on charges of hate speech and incitement.
Prosecution had opposed Jaguar's release on bail, citing his previous criminal record and the possibility of him committing other crimes.
Prosecution further argued that Jaguar, being a person of influence, may interfere with investigations and even plotted an attack on a private property.
Despite these concerns, Jaguar was released on a cash bail of Ksh. 500,000 and his case is set for hearing on 4th September 2019.
