On August 24, 2021, Facebook Inc announced a trial integration of voice and video calls within its main app, aiming to make it easier for users to place calls without opening its standalone Messenger app.

This move marks a significant step towards tying together messaging across Facebook's suite of apps, following the integration of Instagram and Messenger last September.

Facebook plans to eventually integrate WhatsApp into the mix, further streamlining communication across its platforms.

However, a Facebook spokesperson emphasized that for a full-featured messaging, audio, and video call experience, users should continue using Messenger.
