Garissa Woman Representative Anab Gure has been endorsed by clan elders to contest the Fafi parliamentary seat in the 2022 general election.
Ms Gure's bid for the seat has been in the public domain for months, with clan elders playing a significant role in Garissa politics.
"Today, I have been unanimously endorsed by the Harun family to contest for the Fafi parliamentary seat in the forthcoming General Election," Ms Gure said on Monday.
The endorsement ceremony was attended by hundreds of people, including women and the youth, and was led by Muhumed Ali Adan.
Mr Adan said it was time to end the mindset that only men can lead Garissa people, citing Ms Gure's track record as the woman representative.
"We have seen her track record as the woman representative. We believe if given a top position she will deliver change to our constituency," Mr Adan said.
Ms Gure will be contesting the seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket, making her the second female MP in Garissa if elected.
