On August 23, 2021, Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan recorded a statement at the Pangani DCI offices following new evidence on individuals behind a grenade attack on him.

The attack, which occurred on December 7, 2012, at a mosque in Kamukunji constituency, killed 8 people and left Hassan severely injured.

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko had earlier claimed on Twitter that he knew people behind the grenade attack, prompting Hassan to ask him to provide more information to the police.

Police are investigating the new claims and intend to summon Sonko over the allegations.

Hassan said the attack left him crippled for long and left many families affected, hence the need to investigate the claims.

He emphasized that anything related to terrorism must be brought into the light and deserves full investigation.
