Jimmy Wanjigi, a seasoned political player turned presidential aspirant, has thrown his hat into the ring, vying for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) presidential ticket.
Speaking at the Presbyterian Church of East Africa in Nakuru Town West, Wanjigi declared that he is ready to compete with his party leader, Raila Odinga, at the primaries ahead of the 2022 General Elections.
Wanjigi emphasized that ODM is a national party, not Raila's personal outfit, and therefore, he is not guaranteed a presidential ticket.
“ODM is a national party that was started by many people, including President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto, and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, among others,” he said.
Wanjigi also stated that Kenya needs a third liberation, which cannot be achieved by 'recycled and tired leaders.' He believes that the country has faced enough challenges, including impunity and corruption, which have stagnated economic growth.
“Kenya had its first liberation during colonization, and those leaders had their time for 30 years. The second liberation started in 1992, and that too has taken another 30 years. The people who led the nation for that period have nothing to offer,” Wanjigi said.
