On Monday, a patient succumbed to their illness while receiving treatment at Kericho County Referral Hospital, where 35 others are currently admitted in a suspected case of food poisoning.
The incident occurred in Kapkikoro, Sigowet Soin Constituency, after those who consumed uninspected meat from a villager who slaughtered a suspected sick goat began experiencing stomach pains, vomiting, and diarrhoea.
According to Dr Japheth Cheruiyot, samples have been taken from the victims for further laboratory tests to establish the exact cause of their sickness as they undergo treatment.
Kericho Governor Prof Paul Chepkwony has called for calm, assuring residents that doctors are working round the clock to provide the best medical attention to the patients.
Prof Chepkwony also appealed to residents to purchase meat from licensed butcheries to avoid such cases from happening.
