The 30th edition of the AfroBasket championships is set to tip-off at the Kigali Arena in Rwanda on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, and will run until September 5, 2021.
Kenya's basketball team, Morans, will face Côte d'Ivoire in their first match on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, before taking on Nigeria on Friday, August 27, 2021. Their last Group C match will be against Mali on Sunday, August 29, 2021.
Despite losing 74-67 to Senegal in a buildup match, Morans coach Liz Mills expressed her satisfaction with the team's performance ahead of the championships.
Kenya will be returning to the continental championship for the first time in nearly three decades, having last played in 1993 in Nairobi as the host nation.
The 16-team continental festival will see the top five nations book their tickets to the world championships.
Kenya's Morans team includes Griffin Ligare, Okal Koranga Albert Odero, Joseph Khaemba, Ronald Gombe, Valentine Nyakinda, Victor Bosire, Eric Mutoro, Bush Wamukota, Desmond Owili, Fidel Okoth, Tylor Ongwae, Derrick Ogechi, and Faheem Juma, with coach Liz Mills at the helm.
