On August 23, 2021, musician Alex Apoko, known as Ringtone, accused blogger Robert Alai of attempting to interfere with a court case involving the two.
Ringtone's lawyers, led by Evans Ondieki, filed an application to cancel Alai's bond, alleging that Alai had made scathing attacks against Ringtone and had threatened him and his witnesses.
According to the application, Alai had abused and insulted Ringtone, alleging that he was involved in an international car theft syndicate and used music as a cover-up.
Ringtone's lawyers also claimed that Alai's conduct was a threat to democracy, as it showed disrespect to institutions and the rule of law.
Some of the posts on Twitter that allegedly supported Alai's claims were made by blogger Abraham Mutai, who Ringtone's lawyers claimed was a surrogate of Alai and one of his agents.
Alai has been charged with causing Ringtone grievous harm and was released on a cash bail of Sh300, 000 or a Sh1 million bond.
