On August 23, 2021, a school bus belonging to Lions Academy in Embu County was set ablaze by boda boda operators.
The incident occurred after a head-on collision between the school bus and a boda boda operator, who later died on his way to the hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, both the motorbike and bus driver were speeding at the time of the collision.
Embu County boda boda association chairman condemned the incident, terming those who torched the bus as hooligans and not boda boda operators.
Acting Embu West Subcounty police commander Inviolata Imani confirmed the incident and warned residents against taking the law into their hands.
Imani also stated that the driver of the bus escaped after being attacked by the operators, but has not been traced.
Residents have called for speed reduction on the road, citing the high number of pupils who use the route.
