On 15th August 2021, Governor Alfred Mutua and his ex-wife Lilian Nganga announced on their social media accounts that they were no longer together, but would remain friends.

Despite their separation, the two put their differences aside to celebrate Governor Mutua's birthday in Nairobi, with Tanzanian Bongo Star Rayvanny in attendance.

Lilian Nganga took to her social media account to wish her ex-husband a Happy birthday, marking their first public appearance since their announcement.

During their disengagement, the two assured their fans that they would continue being friends and support each other, with Governor Mutua even stating that his ex-wife would be allowed to run some government projects.
