On August 22, 2021, the World Athletics Under-20 Championships witnessed a dramatic turn of events as Uganda's Prisca Chesang and Ethiopia's Melknet Wudu successfully appealed their disqualification in the women's 5,000m final.

Initially, the two athletes were disqualified for lane infringement, but their teams lodged an appeal that was deliberated for hours before the decision to reinstate them was reached.

As a result, Chesang's third-place finish was reinstated, while Wudu's second-place finish was also restored. This meant that Kenya's Zena Cheptoo, who was initially awarded silver, lost her position to Wudu, and Spain's Carla Dominguez, who was fifth, also lost her chance at a medal.
