On August 22, 2021, the government announced the digitalization of the Marsabit County lands registry, streamlining land transactions under the national land management system.

The initiative, supported by the European Union (EU) through the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), aims to enhance efficiency and good governance in land administration.

Ms. Ann Ng'etich, the Administrative Secretary for Lands and Physical Planning, officiated at the handing over of the digitalized registry and equipment in Marsabit town.

"As a Ministry, we are committed to enhancing access to land administration services and I thank the European Union and Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations for supporting our reform agenda," she said.

The digitalization of the Marsabit County lands registry is part of the government's decentralization of land administration services, with the goal of taking services closer to the people, as outlined in the five-year Strategic Plan launched last year.

Ms. Ng'etich emphasized the importance of security of tenure for historically disadvantaged communities, such as the pastoralists, whose land has never been registered.

"Security of tenure is critical for historically disadvantaged communities, especially the pastoralists whose land has never been registered," she said.

The national government has carried out public education and awareness on the Community Land Act, 2016, in all sub-counties in Marsabit, except Loiyangalani.

Ms. Ng'etich appealed for the inclusion of women in the programme, urging the concerned parties to ensure the exercise is completed as planned.
