On World Humanitarian Day 2021, the world came together to celebrate efforts to improve life on Planet earth. The Africa Conference on climate change and health, held on the same day, highlighted the urgent need for climate action to mitigate the effects of climate change on vulnerable populations.
Optiven's GoGreen Initiative was a key part of the conference, showcasing its efforts to promote environmental restoration and sustainability in Kajiado County. The initiative has partnered with the county government and local administration to create awareness on environment restoration and sustainability.
According to the GoGreen Initiative's scorecard, presented at the forum, engagement of stakeholders at the grassroots level is crucial in offering humanitarian aid. The initiative has successfully partnered with local schools and organizations to promote sustainability and environmental awareness among the youth.
Speaking at the conference, Solomon Nzioka of the World Health Organization emphasized the critical link between climate change and human health. He noted that climate change is central to all that affects human health and that of the Planet.
The GoGreen Initiative has made significant strides in promoting sustainability and environmental awareness in Kajiado County. Its efforts to engage the youth and promote community cleanups have yielded positive results, and the initiative is set to hold Environment sustenance awards in December 2021 to recognize environment champions making a difference in the society.
