Published on August 21, 2021, a report by the World Economic Forum highlights the importance of reskilling the current workforce to meet the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

With the rapid development of technology and industry shifts towards sustainability, millions of jobs are likely to be displaced, but this also presents an opportunity to create long-term, sustainable, equitable and inclusive growth.

According to Accenture, the learning and education market is a $7 trillion market that will grow to $8.9 trillion by 2025, with digital formats expected to grow from between nine to 12 per cent annually.

Employers should be the catalysts and accelerators of this shift, investing billions of dollars in training for their workforces and deploying their resources to make a broader impact beyond their immediate and future workforces.

By working collaboratively in instilling a desire for lifelong learning early in life, we will make a significant contribution towards a more sustainable, inclusive, equitable growth and improved well-being on a global scale.

Key to this shift is a seamless user experience, strengthened foundational capabilities, and delivering and improving experience, capabilities, and value.

Employers can increase the return on the investment it will take to reskill the workforce by providing their learning products and services to schools across the world.

Formal educators will continue to expand their reach well beyond classrooms, lecture halls, and geographic borders, and employers will increasingly attract and nurture the very best talent from a global pool, including from marginalised communities.
