On Tuesday, Governor Alfred Mutua of Machakos County spoke out against corruption, calling on Chief Justice David Maraga to set time limits for graft cases. The county boss made his remarks outside his office, after assenting to the county's Sh12 billion budget for the 2019/2020 fiscal year.

According to Mutua, corruption cases should not drag on for months or even years. Instead, he believes they should be resolved within two weeks of indictment, from start to finish.

Speaking to the press, Mutua emphasized the need for swift justice in corruption cases. He also urged President Kenyatta to put in place systems to prevent taxpayers' money from being lost to corruption cartels.

“Most of the money eaten is from the national government and we have to stop it through systems and ensure the culprits are arrested and prosecuted,” Mutua said.

As part of his efforts to combat corruption, Mutua has vowed to crack down on any theft or wastage of public resources in his government. He has also praised the Machakos County Assembly for passing the budget, which he believes will enable his government to initiate much-needed development projects.
