On March 10, 2019, Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 crashed in Ethiopia, resulting in the loss of 157 lives, including 32 Kenyans.

Following the tragedy, the Kenyan Foreign Affairs ministry pledged to support the families of the victims by providing counselling services and facilitating the bureaucratic process.

However, eight family members from Murang'a County have now come forward, accusing the government of abandoning them and failing to fulfill its promises.

According to a petition submitted to the Senate, the families have been left to seek private counselling at their own expense, despite the significant emotional trauma they are experiencing.

Furthermore, the families have been unable to obtain death certificates, which is a responsibility of the Foreign Affairs ministry.

Senators have thrown their weight behind the petition, calling on the government to take immediate action to honor its promises.
