Robert Alai, a vocal Kenyan blogger, has wasted no time in reclaiming his online presence after being released from police custody on Tuesday.
Alai was freed on a Ksh.500,000 bond with an alternative cash bail of Ksh.300,000 after denying two counts of treachery and disclosure of information before Milimani Law Courts Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi.
On Twitter, Alai took a perceived dig at the government, terming them as “oppressors” and calling for the dignity of Kenya's men and women in uniform.
“We won’t beg and we won’t hide. Our men and women in uniform will have to be treated with dignity whether dead or alive,” he wrote.
“Demanding this is not demanding too much but just showing that we are human and we appreciate them. Let’s terrorize the oppressors,” he added.
Alai's release comes after he was charged with sharing a photo of deceased police officers on Whatsapp with the intent to help Al Shabaab, and disclosing information with a photograph of deceased police officers to the public through Twitter which is likely to prejudice investigation.
He denied all the counts and, through his advocate Paul Muite, pleaded with the court for leniency.
