On July 2, 2019, Kenya's hopes of advancing to the last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations were dashed after Cameroon's draw with Benin in a Group F match at the Ismailia Stadium.

Kenya's Harambee Stars had been in a precarious position, relying on Cameroon to beat Benin and Angola to lose to Mali in order to secure a spot in the last 16.

However, Benin's draw with Cameroon meant that they secured one of the four available spots for third-placed teams, leaving Kenya out of contention.

Kenya's elimination came on the heels of a 3-0 loss to Senegal in their final Group C match on July 1, 2019, at the 30 June Stadium, where Liverpool star Sadio Mane scored twice and Stade Rennais forward Ismaila Sarr opened the scoring in a 14-minute second half blitz.

Kenya will now shift their focus to the upcoming African Nations Championships (Chan) qualifiers, where they will face Tanzania in a two-legged tie at the end of July.
