On July 2, 2019, the Ministry of Education made a ruling in favour of Kisumu Day, a school from the Nyanza Region, in an appeal against Barding High School.

The appeal was filed after Barding High School beat Kisumu Day 1-0 in the under-19 boys' football final, with the winning team fielding an ineligible player, Anton Oyugi.

According to the Ministry of Education, an investigation confirmed the allegation, and Barding High School's win was annulled.

As a result, Kisumu Day will now represent the Nyanza Region in the national competition, which will take place in Kisumu County later this month.

Other schools from the Nyanza Region that will participate in the national games include Nyakach (under-19 girls' football), Agoro Sare from Homa Bay, and Ugari from Migori.
